I have had an existing system running Windows 7 (64) for a few months now. Only recently have I encountered this problem.(Excluding similar symptoms on vista32)
I have the following:
Nvidia Geforce 9800 Gt Driver
Home » NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2 Use the links on this page to download the latest version of NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2 drivers. All drivers available for download have been scanned by antivirus program.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit Install
EVGA nForce 790i Ultra motherboard
Nvidia Geforce 9800 Gtx+ Driver
2 X EVGA 9800 GX2
What didn’t you like about this product? Sony vaio vgn-fj290p driver for mac.
The problem seems to be related to PnP/Windows update decides that the driver for the 9800 GX2 is not Windows 7 compatible. It replaces the driver with the 8800 GTX or generic VGA driver which causes it to go to black screen or low-res generic (no card enhancements 1280X1024). I have been able to boot into safe mode and delete the incorrect driver. However, when I attempted to replace it with the EVGA published version it will not install. When I use the NVidia driver it works until my next restart/shutdown. In addition the second video card shows as a single processor unit. I have hidden the update from the update screen but it still comes back. Maxtor 3200 driver download.
I can boot into low-res or safe mode. I have done 3 restores and 2 clean installs. Each time I have get 1-2 days of operation and end at the same point.
High Resolution Signal - Black Screen/ No Signal - Black Screen after login / Lower Resolution w/ low SLI functionality w/ incorrect Driver

Is there a way of avoiding the auto install of these drivers?

- By fusion71auClover r5051 ISO compiled with GCC and minimal config.plist compatible for use in VMWare Workstation.
Tested with unlocked Workstation 15 running OSX 10.9 -->10.15 guest in Windows X64 host.
Installation
1. Download and unzip 'EFI_Clover_r5051 for VMware.zip'. Mount Clover-v2.5k-5051-X64.iso by double clicking on it.
2. Mount your VM's EFI System Partition eg in terminal
sudo diskutil mount disk0s1 3. Copy EFI folder from step 1 into the EFI partition
4. Shutdown the VM, add bios.bootDelay = '3000' to your VM's vmx file
5. Reboot your VM, press <F2> to access the VMware Boot Manager and add CLOVERX64.efi to the boot menu.
Substitute your own unique and valid MLB and ROM variables in the /EFI/CLOVER/config.plist (Rt Variables section) to activate iMessage/Facetime on your VM.
